ITV All Star Musicals: First look at Alex Beresford's show-stopping performance

Bristolian TV presenter Alex Beresford is set to wow the audience this weekend as All Star Musicals returns to our television screens. The ITV programme will see six stars flexing their musical muscles for a Sunday night filled with show-stopping entertainment.

This year's contestants include Good Morning Britain's Alex Beresford, wildlife presenter Michaela Strachan, Coronation Street's Lisa George, Eastenders' Jacqueline Jossa, James Bond actor Colin Salmon and rugby star Danny Care. All of these famous faces will be embarking on the ultimate musical theatre masterclass as they hope to be voted All Star Musical's champion with their spectacular performance.

Musical theatre icons and judges Elaine Paige OBE, Samantha Barks and Trevor Dion Nicholas will be critiquing the performances of the all-star contestants, with John Barrowman hosting. Ahead of this weekend's show, Trevor has marvelled at how Alex stood out to him, according to the Metro.

The Hamilton star said: "There’s a unique quality in him that already made him so engaging on Good Morning Britain, and that’s that intangible star quality. In my overall experience with All Star Musicals, I think he’s one of the ones, where if he wanted to, he could end up in the theatre industry. He’s a very talented, wonderful human being, it was wonderful to work with him."

Sunday night's show will feature a very special performance from the stars of The Phantom of the Opera, as they celebrate 35 years in London's West End. As for Alex's performance, it is not yet clear what number the weatherman will be belting out, although he has teased that he may be singing one of the songs from Hamilton, a production which follows the life of one of America's founding fathers.

Speaking to the Metro, Alex, 41, said: "They came with a couple of songs that they wanted me to try, and they came with one particular one. I had second thoughts about doing the show, because you don’t want to go onstage and look stupid.

"Once I got over the shock that it’s that song, from that musical which is one of the most popular songs, I kind of got to grips with it."

Although belting out musical theatre hits on stage in front of professionals can be daunting, Alex has revealed he is excited, too. He said: "There’s a fine line between panic and excitement, but I can’t wait to challenge myself and feel the thrill of performing a musical number in front of a crowd. The acoustics in my shower are very sympathetic."

All Star Musicals airs on Sunday, April 3, at 7:30pm on ITV.
