Itauma vs Whyte LIVE!
Moses Itauma knocked out Dillian Whyte in just one round as he cemented his place at the top of the heavyweight division in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The 20-year-old took on the 37-year-old veteran at the ANB Arena in what was to be his toughest test of his nascent career, but Itauma made a mockery of the chasm of experience, keeping his composure to deliver beautifully.
The fight was stopped inside two minutes of the opening round, with Itauma starting superbly and with plenty of attacking intent with one-twos, while Whyte was off with his jab from the bell, falling short. The age gap was evident, as Itauma moved another step closer to a world title fight with a fatal right hand to send the Brixton-born Whyte crashing to the canvas.
Who next? Joseph Parker is Oleksandr Usyk’s mandatory challenger for the WBO heavyweight world title, but the Kiwi could assume the belt should the Ukrainian vacate the championship, having requested an extension to negotiations with injury. Elsewhere on the card, Scouser Nick Ball retained his WBA featherweight title against the tricky Australian Sam Goodman, while British heavyweight David Adeleye battled bravely, but was taught a lesson by Filip Hrgovic.

ITAUMA WINS!
22:34 , Oli GentWHAT A KNOCKOUT! A first round knockout inside just two minutes! That is incredible. The speed, the precision, and the power. He does it in double-quick time. He could not miss. Job done.
Round one - Itauma vs Whyte
22:34 , Oli GentPositive start from Itauma with a jab and a right hook. There was a jab from Whyte, but no follow-up shot. Whyte is falling short with his jab so far, while Itauma has settled well in the opening minute and a half. He lands a right and a body shot on the veteran, and he’s wobbled him! Whyte in desperate trouble in the corner. He’s all over the place, and he’s down inside two minutes, and he’s gone!
Let's get ready to rumble!
22:29 , Oli GentMichael Buffer sets the scene, and the fighters are in position.
The anticipation!
Whyte next...
22:25 , Oli GentThe Jaws theme song plays as Whyte has made Itauma wait in the ring. The first real use of the mind games from the veteran, who is taking his sweet time to get to the ring. That’s experience for you.
There’s the wolf howl... before Back in Black by ACDC plays! A strong choice.
Here come the fighters!
22:20 , Oli GentItauma makes his ring walk first... ‘Feelin’ Good’ blares out from the speakers, before switching quickly into ‘Good Times’ by Styles. Cold entrance.
Tale of the tape
22:16 , Oli GentIt’s new vs old as the 20-year-old takes on the 37-year-old.
Whyte weighed in the heavier at 244.5lbs, while Itauma came in at 235.5lbs.
Both are 6’4”, although Itauma is half an inch taller.
Itauma is 12-0, while Whyte holds a 31-3 record.
Here we go!
22:15 , Oli GentHere come the big boys.
The main event.
What we’ve been waiting for.
Ball takes it!
21:55 , Oli GentNick Ball retains his title via unanimous decision!
The points were more one-sided than perhaps we thought, at 119-111, 118-112, and 115-113.
What a fight.
Round 12 - Ball vs Goodman
21:51 , Oli GentThis is it. This is where champions are made. It’s been a real see-saw battle, and Goodman might have to fight his heart out to go home with the title. There’s a cut to Ball’s right eye, and he takes a right after a nice combo from Goodman, but Ball battles back with a one-two of his own! Lovely shots from the pair of them, but the Briton is really letting his hands go as we cross the halfway mark in the 12th.
Both have shown granite chins this evening. Their conditioning is top-tier. Goodman wants to end this with a final flurry and potentially tip the balance in his favour right at the death. Ball goes for the uppercut as the clock ticks down. We won’t get a finish, but what a brawl! The bell goes after a corker of a world title fight.
Who has won that?!
Round 11 - Ball vs Goodman
21:47 , Oli GentA nice left to the body from Goodman, but that opens him up to one upstairs. Uppercuts and body shots are coming in from Ball, who’s bringing the variety to the table. There’s not much of it from Goodman, but he’s soaking up well and looking to fire back. One round to go.
Round ten - Ball vs Goodman
21:43 , Oli GentWho will win this? It could really go either way. Ball has landed 16 more punches than Goodman, but he’s also thrown 535 to 406. He’s really going for it, the Briton, and he’s trying to crank up the pressure as the Aussie looks to stay in it with the jab. He needs some more eye-catching action to go his way in the dying embers of the tenth...
Round nine - Ball vs Goodman
21:40 , Oli GentThere are some nice exchanges here, with Ball throwing in some uppercuts, but Goodman responds well. The Briton lands another uppercut nicely, though, and he’s settling in in the latter stages. What does Goodman have left in the tank?
Round eight - Ball vs Goodman
21:36 , Oli GentAnother tight round there. More Ball pressure, more evasion from Goodman. The Aussie is doing a great job of staying off the ropes and making his way back to the centre of the ring, and he’s flicking and picking his shots when he pleases.
Round seven - Ball vs Goodman
21:31 , Oli GentGoodman is still making Ball fall short as he lunges in once more. The Briton is starting to show signs of frustration here, with the Aussie doing really well with his movement. This is tantalisingly tight!
Round six - Ball vs Goodman
21:27 , Oli GentBall is letting his hands go now, but he’s struggling to break that Goodman guard. He gets round it with a left hook, but the Aussie does well to not be fazed by it. This a tough round to score. Who took that one? We’re at the halfway stage of this one.
Round five - Ball vs Goodman
21:23 , Oli GentHere comes the Wrecking Ball! This is what he does, as he explodes on Goodman with a flurry of accurate shots that has the Australian a bit wobbly, but he’s ok. That’s a good start to the round for the Brit, but he needs a strong finish to claw himself back on the scorecards.
Goodman is on his bike a bit more now, and body shots and combinations are working for the champion. That’s a better round.
Round four - Ball vs Goodman
21:18 , Oli GentGoodman is now in the ascendancy with Ball lunging in. He’s not using his jab and trying to swat at the Aussie with big shots, which is playing into the challenger’s hand.
Goodman is showing superb footwork, as well as the lead hand, which has been particularly effective in catching the champion.
A simple one-two from Goodman with 30 seconds to go, followed by a right and a body shot as the Aussie corner goes mad. Their man is on top.
Round three - Ball vs Goodman
21:14 , Oli GentThose wild lead hooks aren’t really going fade Ball with Goodman’s footwork looking sharp. The Aussie has settled into the fight well, showing good composure. He catches Ball with a nice right that’ll catch the eyes of the judges. The smaller man is looking to go on the offensive, but he just can’t seem to find Goodman, who is getting out of the way and making the lunging Briton crash into the ropes. There’s a bit of swelling under Ball’s eye, too. One to watch.
Round two - Ball vs Goodman
21:11 , Oli GentBall has had a few swings, and Goodman has shown a good understanding of the range, getting out of the way and forcing the Scouser to miss. Ball, meanwhile, is switching stances to try and shake things up. The Briton looks to have had the better of that one.
Round one - Ball vs Goodman
21:06 , Oli GentHere we go! How will this unfold, then?
Goodman comes out trying to establish his jab early, and he chops down with a right hand too to impose the height difference. Ball is getting lower to ensure that he can get out of the way of the shots coming down on top of him.
Goodman is trying to go to Ball’s body, but there’s great work from Ball to show good variation. Goodman needs to keep it long and keep at range and not let the smaller man on the inside.
Ball lands a lovely right hand, and is looking for the combinations, while Goodman is still trying to lead with the jab.
Tale of the tape
20:59 , Oli GentAt 28 years old, Ball comes into this title defence with a two-year seniority over Goodman. He also weighed in a pound heavier too, at 126lbs. However, he’s four and a half inches shorter than the Aussie, standing at 5’2”, while Goodman stands at 5’6.5”.
Ball has 22 wins and a draw to his name, while Goodman is flawless with his 20-0 record.
This should be some fight.
Up next: Nick Ball vs Sam Goodman
20:43 , Oli GentNow onto the good bit. The WBA featherweight title fight that we've been waiting for. It's Britain vs Australia. Who will come out on top?
Tsutsumi takes it!
20:38 , Oli GentA superb TKO victory from the Japanese fighter. The Ring ambassador with a spectacular showing in Riyadh this evening on the big stage. He extends his record to 8-0.
Round three - Tsutsumi vs Ashfaq
20:37 , Oli GentTsutsumi’s team are cheering every blow he lands on Ashfaq, and the Briton is sent to the canvas not once, but twice! First with a right, and then with a left. He’s up both times, and the referee calls it off!
Round two - Tsutsumi vs Ashfaq
20:35 , Oli GentAshfaq is really being made to work and is being moved around the perimeter of the ring. Tsutsumi’s movement and speed in and out is so good to watch. He’s planting his feet and landing. He’s knocked the Briton down there with a right to the temple, though! Ashfaq takes the count and he gets back to the corner down two rounds, with one a 10-8.
Round one - Tsutsumi vs Ashfaq
20:30 , Oli GentThe bell goes, and we’re underway as the Yorkshireman takes on not just the Japanese fighter, but the occasion. Ashfaq is in a southpaw stance, and is looking to fight off the back foot as Tsutsumi is measured in his mentality. Tsutsumi is showing a solid base off the bat and takes that first round.
Full undercard results so far
20:23 , Oli GentFilip Hrgovic def. David Adeleye by UD (heavyweight)
Ray Ford def. Abraham Nova by UD (super featherweight)
Mohammed Alakel def. Yumnam Santosh by KO (super featherweight)
Up next: Hayato Tsutsumi vs Qais Ashfaq
20:14 , Oli GentA featherweight clash is next on the docket.
The tricky Japanese fighter takes on the battling Briton Ashfaq in another intriguing battle.
Hrgovic wins it!
20:09 , Oli GentThe No6 in the world rankings does what he needed to. A unanimous decision victory, and a 10-8 round to boot.
98-92, and 99-91 from the judges.
He might need to go and get that eye stitched.
Round ten - Hrgovic vs Adeleye
20:05 , Oli GentNeat and tidy boxing from Hrgovic in this final round. Adeleye is looking a bit out of puff, and perhaps, ideas. What a learning experience this has been, though. He’s taken an awful lot of right hands, and landed a fair few of his own. A high-quality scrap, this.
Round nine - Hrgovic vs Adeleye
20:01 , Oli GentThe pace has slowed a bit after that mammoth eighth. Both fighters are looking a bit jaded here, but are they saving a humdinger for the final round?
Round eight - Hrgovic vs Adeleye
19:57 , Oli GentA huge right from Hrgovic wobbles Adeleye, and the Briton roars in response. But he’s down with a second one! He’s up quickly, beating the count, but he’s in trouble here... or is he! He’s really going for his punches, but is he fully with it? He’s swinging wildly. How are Hrgovic’s legs? A good left hook response from Adeleye off the ropes, and here he comes with a flurry of his own! He’s raining down on the Croat, and Hrgovic is the one now looking worse for wear! Who has punched themselves out first? This could be one of the rounds of the year so far.
Round seven - Hrgovic vs Adeleye
19:54 , Oli GentAdeleye’s left hooks are creeping through the Hrgovic guard, but the Croat is doing well to close the distance once more and set the tone. He’s throwing the harder and more meaningful punches, and that is what matters in the judges’ eyes.
Round six - Hrgovic vs Adeleye
19:49 , Oli GentAdeleye needs to find something here, with the Croat really showing good accuracy down the pipe and to the body. He’s constantly making Adeleye work, throwing 274 punches to 111. He’s landed 118 to Adeleye’s 38. The Briton is showing a good chin as he gets caught with a left hook. Can Adeleye push his opponent back a little? With a double jab? An up and down to the body? How can he come back from this? He’s clearly down on the scorecards...
Round five - Hrgovic vs Adeleye
19:45 , Oli GentAdeleye is needing a bit of success here as we cross halfway. Hrgovic is showing some lovely work, raining down accurate and powerful blows on the Brit. The gap in experience is beginning to show.
Round four - Hrgovic vs Adeleye
19:42 , Oli GentHrgovic has responded really well to the cut and the shock at the end of the last round. The Croat has taken control of this round, and he’s landing some heavy shots with Adeleye not able to follow up on a final flourish in the third round.
Round three - Hrgovic vs Adeleye
19:38 , Oli GentHrgovic is getting that sliced eye checked out by the ringside doctor, but the referee deems him ok to fight. Can Adeleye make the most of his opponent’s compromised state, and perhaps even do more damage upstairs? Hrgovic is chopping down with that right hand, and it’s looking good as he combines it with an effective body shot. Adeleye is in unchartered territory. How will he respond? Well. with a huge shot, as he stuns Hrgovic in the corner in the final 10 seconds! He’s burst the cut open again with a booming left hook. Stunning end to the round.
Round two - Hrgovic vs Adeleye
19:33 , Oli GentHrgovic is working the body nicely, but Adeleye has cut him on that right eye, that has caused him problems before! A lovely jab from the British fighter, and the Croat’s eye is an absolute mess! That must give Adeleye a real boost of confidence, but here come both of them, swinging from the hip as Hrgovic gets Adeleye on the ropes.
Round one - Hrgovic vs Adeleye
19:29 , Oli GentHere we go! How will the Briton fare here? You can already see the two-inch size difference between the two. Adeleye started on the front foot, in the centre of the ring, but Hrgovic is imposing with his frame, working the range with the jab to set up the right hand. The Croatian is coming on strong as we approach halfway in the first round, throwing shots to head and body, but Adeleye is still there. Hrgovic is looking to dominate early.
Tale of the tape
19:20 , Oli Gent28-year-old Adeleye faces his toughest test to date. Coming in at 240.5lbs, his record stands at 14-1. He’s two inches shorter than the 6’6” Hrgovic, who is heavier at 241.9kg. The 33-year-old Croatian is 18-1.
Itauma is in the building!
19:19 , Oli GentOne half of the main event is here...
The 20-year-old will begin his preparations ahead of later.
Next up: Filip Hrgovic vs David Adeleye
19:11 , Oli GentA first heavyweight battle of the evening as Briton Adeleye takes on the Croat!
Ford wins it!
19:08 , Oli GentThe American takes the victory by unanimous decision!
Round ten - Ford vs Nova
19:04 , Oli GentLast one. Who will blink first? Nova’s been a bit slow in the last couple of rounds and must pick the pace up if he’s to stay with Ford. He’s shown real grit, the Dominican, and he’s trying his absolute best to back it up. The speed and work on the back foot from Ford has been top drawer, however. The American’s defence has been good tonight. He’s boxed well, and it’s looking like another hard-fought victory for the 26-year-old from New Jersey.
Round nine - Ford vs Nova
19:00 , Oli GentA crisp one-two from Ford with a glancing blow, and then a left on the back foot follows. Nova is still going after him, but the American is comfortable in there, showing his skillset and speed to full effect.
Round eight - Ford vs Nova
18:57 , Oli GentHe’s still there, Nova! He’s having a real go, saving a bit for the last 10 seconds to get to the bell with a flourish. The most competitive he’s been for the last couple of rounds.
Round seven - Ford vs Nova
18:52 , Oli GentFord is very much the aggressor now, knowing that he hurt Nova quite badly in that last round. Ford has the bit between his teeth, but can he find that elusive knockout blow? This round has been a bit of a slug-fest, but again, the American is in the ascendancy.
Round six - Ford vs Nova
18:48 , Oli GentThe chasm in quality is evident between the pair, but that’s not to say that Nova doesn’t have a chance here. He is landing, but he’s still not completing those combinations to really make any difference. Ford has shown superb speed of foot to evade those body shots for the most part. Nova walks into a big left hand - the heaviest shot of the fight so far - with the Dominican looking a bit shaky with 15 seconds left until the bell. He clinches to hang on, but that’s a jerky walk back to the corner...
Round five - Ford vs Nova
18:44 , Oli GentNova is cut as Ray Ford catches him with a nice left hand. Not ideal for the Dominican there, who is a bit behind with the pace of the fight that the American is trying to set. He’s a tricky customer, however, Nova, still looking for the body. Nova is breathing a bit more heavily now, as you can start to see a bruise come through below that cut. He’s still dangerous with the right late on, but he’s not winning enough of these rounds. Ford still up halfway through.
Round four - Ford vs Nova
18:40 , Oli GentA flurry of rights from Nova to open the fourth. Nova is trying to walk down his opponent, but the uppercut is there for Ford if he can find it. The referee tells the American off for pushing as Nova gets up on his chest. Ford’s footwork is superb to stay on the inside as he socks Nova in the right guy with a nice hook. This has been better after a poorer third round. That said, Nova is trying to throw a couple of uppercuts of his own with Ford on the ropes, but the American is throwing the more eye-catching shots that will matter on the scorecards.
Round three - Ford vs Nova
18:36 , Oli GentThe countering speed from Ford is electric. Nova has to be aggressive and walk Ford down, but he’s walking into a trap every time he does so. Good work from Nova halfway through the round as the Dominican rattles a combination through the Ford guard. He’s punching a bit longer, which is helping him, going back to the body once more to try and gas the American. This has been Nova’s best round of the fight so far in this ten-rounder.
Round two - Ford vs Nova
18:32 , Oli GentA decent last 30 seconds from Nova in the first round. What can he do in the second? He’s having some success going to the body, but Ford is timing his left well. Ford has Nova slightly off balance with a right hand, but the Dominican is ok and not hurt. The Dominican goes for the American’s ribs in the corner, but Ford fights his way out of it. He is getting backed up onto the ropes, Ford, but he’s doing a decent job of smothering Nova’s work as he looks to alternate upstairs and downstairs. Lovely left to the body from Ford, following up with another strong left down the pipe to turn the tables of the round very quickly. Competitive first couple of rounds!
Round one - Ford vs Nova
18:29 , Oli GentWe’re underway in the main card, and this one should be a bit of a closer match-up. Experience between these two, and Ford is a real joy to watch when he’s in full flow. Both are feeling each other out in the early exchanges, as the American shows quick hands with quick in-outs. Nova is showing good range. He’s not let his hands go yet, but expect that a bit later on in the fight. Ford is trying to throw in the feints to get on the inside, and he’s still looking to find the range with his back hand. The bell goes. Even-steven so far, maybe Ford just edged it in the judges’ eyes.
Tale of the tape
18:20 , Oli GentFord, the American, is 17-1-1. The 26-year-old weighed in at 130lbs, standing at 5’7”. Nova, from the Dominican Republic, has 24 wins, losing three times, and drawing once. He’s 31 years of age, standing at 5’9”, and weighing in at 129.1lbs.
Next up: Ray Ford vs Abraham Nova
18:18 , Oli GentWe’ve got another super featherweight bout on show here.
A fascinating encounter to come as Nova makes his way to the ring...
Round one - Alakel vs Santosh
18:10 , Oli GentWe are underway. It’s Alakel on the front foot, straight down to work. He’s looking for a fast start, hurting Santosh with a left to the body early. A right from Alakel seems to land, with Santosh down, but the referee says no knockdown. The Indian continues to swing wildly, while the Saudi fighter is more measured in his shot selection. Santosh is down this time, taking a count after Alakel catches him with a right... and he’s out! A first win by stoppage for mighty Mo!
Tale of the tape
18:05 , Oli GentAlakel is 21, with Santosh 30 years of age. Santosh weighed in at 132.6lbs, with Alakel bang on 132lbs.
At 5’8”, Alakel has the height advantage, with Santosh just 5’4”.
Alakel is 4-0 in his professional career, and Santosh is 3-6.
Up first: Mohammed Alakel vs Yumnam Santosh
17:59 , Oli GentWe’ve got a Saudi fighter, Alakel, against Santosh, the Indian, in a super featherweight bout up first.
This is the only prelim fight on the card, before the main events get underway.
Title fight!
17:45 , Oli GentElsewhere on the card, we have a title fight on our hands.
Britain’s Nick Ball defends his WBA featherweight belt against Sam Goodman.
Ball has successfully defended his crown, most recently against TJ Doheny in Liverpool back in March.
Goodman, the Aussie, is 20-0, and came through Cesar Vaca Espinoza by unanimous decision in his last fight.
This will be sure be an interesting scrap later on this evening.
Standard Sport prediction
17:30 , Oli GentThis is a tricky one to call, as Itauma faces his toughest test to date, and a composed, experienced head in the ring.
That said, the 20-year-old is ranked No1 for a reason. He has been slick and ruthless in his performances, with a meteoric rise to the top of the heavyweight division, and he still has more to give.
He will want to test Whyte’s chin - and he is sure to have his own tested - but his youthful exuberance should carry him to his biggest win yet.
Itauma to win by knockout.
Rivalry explained
17:15 , Oli GentHow has this happened, then?
Itauma, the 20-year-old hotshot, takes on one of the veterans of the heavyweight division in Whyte, the 37-year-old.
Itauma is the next generation of the game, and is flawless with a 12-0 record. WBO ranks him No1 currently, after his knockout victory over Mike Balogun in Glasgow back in May.
Whyte himself is on a three-fight win streak following the overturning of his licence suspension for a positive drugs test that ruled him out of a rematch with Anthony Joshua back in 2023.
Whoever wins this could well get a money shot at the WBO heavyweight world title against the Kiwi Joseph Parker.
Parker is the mandatory challenger to undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk, although the Ukrainian has asked for an extension to be granted for fight negotiations as he recovers from an injury.
If he is forced to vacate the belt, Parker will assume the throne and most likely face the victor here.
