Italy's Eurovision winner Damiano David passes drug test after denying cocaine snorting accusations

Italian Eurovision winner Damiano David has passed a drugs test to prove he didn't snort cocaine during Saturday's final.

The Maneskin frontman was at the centre of some wild drug claims from viewers across Europe after they spotted lowering his head behind a bucket in the green room as the results came in.

Damiano immediately shot down the accusations in a press conference immediately following Maneskin's victory at Eurovision with their track Zitti e Buoni, with the band taking to Instagram to post: "We really are AGAINST drugs and we never used cocaine. We are ready to get (tested), cause we have nothing to hide."

Appearing on BBC Breakfast on Monday, Damiano said he was "really offended" by the allegations levelled against him, maintaining he was looking down at smashed glass on the floor, not snorting drugs.

His claims were backed up by the European Broadcasting Union who revealed that broken glass had been found under Maneskin's table after the Eurovision final and now the EBU have revealed that Damiano has passed a drugs test and the matter is now "closed."

In a statement, they said: "Following allegations of drug use in the green room of the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final on Saturday 22 May, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), as requested by the Italian delegation, has conducted a thorough review of the facts, including checking all available footage.

“A drug test was also voluntarily undertaken earlier today by the lead singer of the band Maneskin which has returned a negative result seen by the EBU. No drug use took place in the green room and we consider the matter closed.”

Maneskin reacted to the news by celebrating Zitti e buoni's worldwide chart success posting: " Zitti e buoni is #9 on Spotify Global Chart. It's the Italian most-streamed song ever in one day, something like this never happened.

"As we told you, Rock'n'roll never dies."

At the time of writing, the track was at number 6 on UK iTunes, behind James Newman's Embers, which is currently at number 2, despite his dismal result on Saturday.
