Italy’s Prime Minister Mario Draghi has eased the country’s Covid green card restrictions.
(Picture: AFP via Getty Images)Booster vaccinations will no longer have an expiry date after which they cannot be used validate the country’s equivalent of a vaccine passport.
Green Passes, which are mandatory in Italy for everything from going in restaurants to riding ski lifts, will have unlimited validity once a person has received their third vaccine dose or has two doses and proof of recent infection.
A tweet from Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s office sent reads: “The validity of the green pass will become unlimited for those who have had three doses – or two doses and have already had Covid-19.”
The announcement is a boost for holidaymakers hoping to travel to Italy this summer who feared their booster would not be enough to travel freely.
Concerns over the validity of a booster vaccination had arisen after a change to the Green Pass rules on 1 February, when a six-month validity period was added to all Covid jabs, including boosters.
This was despite no fourth doses being offered in the country and many older Italians nearing the end of the half year mark since receiving their booster dose.
The Italian government’s easing of the rules is due to kick-in from 7 February.
