
For the past decade, Cambodia has had one of the best performing economies in the world as Europe happened to be one of the biggest buyers of its goods.
However, following a complaint by Italy, the European Union has imposed tariffs on rice from Cambodia and Myanmar for three years.
Italy wants to protect its rice industry from the falling prices, caused by imports from the two Asian countries that enjoyed tariff-free access to the European markets under a programme designed to help developing countries.
