Italy centre Michele Campagnaro to join Harlequins from Wasps after World Cup

Harlequins have made Italy centre Michele Campagnaro their third signing in two days as Paul Gustard puts his stamp on his squad for next season.

Campagnaro, who has 36 international caps, will join after the World Cup, at which he is set to be a key player for Italy. He joins the Argentine pair, scrum-half Martin Landajo and prop Santiago Garcia Botta, with Harlequins expected to also sign a hooker this week.

The 26-year-old is currently at Wasps but was part of Exeter’s title-winning team in 2016/17 and can play centre or wing.

“I have watched Michele in recent years starring for club and country and I know he will be a great addition to our squad at Harlequins,” said Gustard.

“We have an array of exciting talent at centre at the club and Michele will provide excellent competition for places as we look to progress and build on this season’s momentum.

“Michele is a seasoned international, a Premiership winner, who will add top-level experience to our playing group. He is a fantastic talent, powerful through contact and will give us even more of an attacking threat next season.”

Gustard has overseen a stark upturn in fortunes since joining Quins from England last summer, and Campagnaro said he was joining a squad “capable of winning a lot of trophies”. They face Saracens at the London Stadium this weekend.
