Italy boss Roberto Mancini has transfer message for forgotten Chelsea man ahead of summer window

Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri has been urged to consider his options this summer, due to a lack of opportunities with the Blues.

The message has come from Italy boss Roberto Mancini, who has been speaking about his options at full-back as he considers who will be in his squad for the European Championships, which have now been postponed until the summer of 2021.

Emerson has found himself out of favour in west London, with the left-back not featuring for the Blues since January 21, when Chelsea drew 2-2 with Arsenal in the Premier League.

That was his 18th appearance of the season for the Blues in all competitions, after being a regular in the early stages of Frank Lampard's time in charge.

English football suspended until at least April 30 due to coronavirus pandemic

But in recent weeks, prior to the suspension of all professional football in England, Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta have been preferred at left-back or left wing-back, depending on the system that the Blues have played.

And now, amid concerns over a lack of game time for Emerson, Mancini has sent a message to the 25-year-old as he considers the full-back positions in his squad ahead of the European Championships, which have now been delayed until the summer of 2021.

“As for the full-backs, we knew Adam Masina, although he disappeared from the radar a bit after his move to Watford,” the former Manchester City boss told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Luca Pellegrini already spent time with the senior squad and can improve.

“It would be nice if Emerson Palmieri, who hasn’t played much for Chelsea, could come and play in Italy.”

Emerson left Roma to join Chelsea in January 2018 and has since made 52 appearances for the Blues..
