Bangkok and Rome are exploring deeper transport cooperation as Italy signals support for Thailand's rail and port expansion plans.
Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn met Italian Ambassador to Thailand Paolo Dionisi on Friday to mark 158 years of diplomatic ties and discuss infrastructure collaboration.
He said Italy expressed readiness to share expertise in rail systems and ports, including interest in southern port development and the Land Bridge project aimed at boosting regional logistics.
A key highlight was Italian private sector interest in operating a luxury tourist train in Thailand, in partnership with Thai firms, to promote premium rail tourism. The ambassador also invited the minister to Italy's National Day reception on June 2, which he accepted.
