Italian Football TV's cheeky tweet backfires and Northern Ireland fans love it

The Italians will be smarting today.

Held by Northern Ireland at Windsor Park, the Azzurri now have to go through the play-offs to try and reach next year's World Cup.

Roberto Mancini's side disappointed in Belfast, with Northern Ireland unlucky not to come away with a famous win under the Windsor floodlights.

Mancini lamented his side's inability to score, with the game ending in a 0-0 stalemate.

The Italians were massive favourites to claim victory on Monday night. The European champions were expected to see off Ian Baraclough's underdogs with relative ease.

Italian Football TV, which is based in New York, had been gearing up for a big performance, and even aimed a cheeky dig at Northern Ireland ahead of kick-off.

They took to Twitter on Monday morning to say: "Good morning to everyone except Northern Ireland today."

Fair to say the Green and White Army lapped it up following the game.

One fan replied: "Glad to be of service."

Another simply added: "Hehe."

Alan indulged in a bit of Italian when he tweeted: "Buona Serata.. Esercito Bianco e Verde", which roughly translates into 'Good Evening, Green and White Army'.

Rudde said "Oh dear", while Graham threw in a good old-fashion "Bout ye!!!!!".

The draw for the play-offs will be held on November 26, with the games taking place from March 24 to 29 next year.
