'It would have been a nice final' - Bayern Munich ace Leon Goretzka opens up on Man City clash

Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka believes Manchester City is the "toughest draw" the Bundesliga club could have got in the Champions League, but claimed he was excited about the tie.

Pep Guardiola's side will take on the German giants in the Champions League quarter-finals next month, with the Blues hosting Bayern at the Etihad in the first leg, before travelling to Munich for the reverse leg. The reigning Bundesliga champions will have a new manager in charge when the two sides meet after sacking Julian Nagelsmann last week.

Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was announced as his replacement and will take charge of the team against Borussia Dortmund at the weekend. Bayern currently sit second in the top-flight table, but they can move above their opponents with a victory at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Bayern will also be aiming to win their fourth Champions League crown this term, but Goretzka admitted the clash with City will be a tough test. However, the 28-year-old, who was part of the side that lifted the trophy in 2020, is relishing the clash with the Blues.

"City is the toughest draw that we could’ve gotten," he told SportBild. "I think City think the same about us. It would have been a nice final. Now we’re playing in the quarterfinal. FC Bayern will be ready."

After the draw was made, Thomas Muller, speaking to iMiaSanMia, said: "Quarterfinals against Manchester City. Look, Pep [Guardiola] left here in Bayern [Munich] and now the first game against his team.

"Looking forward to it and very happy that the last game is in Munich."

If Guardiola's men get past Bayern in the quarter-finals, they will face either Real Madrid or Chelsea in the semi-finals.
