'It would be wrong to say' - Everton defender Ben Godfrey makes Champions League claim

Ben Godfrey says Everton should embrace talk of challenging for the Champions League places.

The Blues know a win at West Bromwich Albion on Thursday night will move them into the top four with just 12 matches of the season left.

Carlo Ancelotti is still trying to play down talk of qualifying for the Champions League this season but conceded that it would be important to "touch" the position this week - even if they only stayed there for a couple of hours, with Liverpool and Chelsea playing later that night.

Godfrey, the £20m signing from Norwich City, says there is no reason why Everton should not be aiming for the top four this season.

Everton is a huge club and we are ambitious, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to do well, so why not aim for those Champions League spots?,” said Godfrey.

“All we can do is focus on ourselves and go into every game with the mentality of wanting to take three points, then see what happens at the end of the season.

“It would be wrong to say we’re not aiming for European qualification.

“We all want success and as long as we continue doing the same things and believing in ourselves there is no reason we shouldn’t achieve it."
