'It will be like a new signing' - Jim O'Brien inching his way back to fitness at Notts County

Jim O'Brien has made further positive steps in his recovery from a thigh injury by joining in Notts County's training session earlier this week.

The Scotsman suffered an eight-inch gash to his thigh during the Magpies' FA Trophy win over Chesterfield in December which was his first game back after three months out with a broken arm.

O'Brien suffered the injury after being caught accidentally by the studs of Curtis Weston while committing to a slide tackle and left the pitch with blood pouring from the wound.

But the popular former Bradford player is inching his way back to fitness and was able to join in with the rest of the squad on Monday.

Ardley says he cannot wait to see O'Brien return, but will not attempt to rush him back.

“Jim is coming on really well,” he said.

“He joined in training on Monday.

“He had protection for his arm and he’s got a massive scar down his thigh.

“Jim has been in the wars, and I don’t think he’s experienced anything like what he’s been through this season.

“But he’s hungry, he’s frustrated, but we just have to make sure we build him up and get the base work done.

“It will be like a new signing when we get him back.”
