It will be hot and sunny in Greater Manchester next week... FINALLY!

Temperatures could finally rise next week after a wet and cool start to May.

Mancs will have to wait a few more days before they can dust off their sunnies.

Weather forecaster WXCharts predicts that the mercury will reach 18C in parts of the UK due to a blast of hot air from the Atlantic before climbing to above 20C.

Areas of the north and south east could enjoy highs of 22C, the Mirror reports.

But before the sun makes an appearance, the country will be lashed by yet more torrential downpours and thunderstorms today and throughout this week.

Sadly that goes for Greater Manchester too, with 'sunny spells and showers' forecast for the rest of the week.

The Met Office has forecast thundery showers interspersed with some sunny spells today (Wednesday), plus another wet day tomorrow (Thursday).

Temperatures are already warmer than last week with highs of 15C today and 17C tomorrow.

The outlook for Friday cloudy with some isolated showers followed by sunny spells in the afternoon.

Saturday will be cloudy with showers with some more rain and sunny intervals on Sunday.

While the grim weather will continue during the week some forecasters are predicting much warmer temperatures soon.

Temperatures are set to rise to the mid-teens in most areas of the UK with the coldest spots in the far north.
