With season 1 now over, fans are already wondering when we'll get to see IT: Welcome to Derry season 2 on our screens. According to the show's executive producer Barbara Muschietti, the wait for new episodes shouldn't be too long, but it's ultimately up to HBO.
During a Q&A with the producers on Reddit, executive producers Andy and Barbara Muschietti – who also led the movies IT and IT: Chapter Two – replied to some burning questions and comments from viewers, including some about the future of the series. "Love the show, please dont make us wait for the next season for years like some other shows do," wrote one fan.
Barbara Muchietti wrote back: "Not the intention, I swear! Talk to HBO." That somehow doesn't fill us with confidence given that season 2 hasn't been officially announced, but it's better than nothing. At the very least, we know the Muchiettis are committed to continuing with the story. In fact, they have already talked about what we can expect from a new season.
Andy Muschietti told Deadline before IT: Welcome to Derry had even premiered that the new season might be set in 1935, revolving around the Bradley Gang Massacre, a significant moment in Derry's dark history.
"There is an intentional bigger arc that will open. My intention with this was to create a story that is a little bit like an iceberg under the water all through seasons 1, 2 and 3. There will be an expansion in the mythology and more answers to the big questions. The second season will be in 1935. At the end of season 1, we are hinting at the reason why we are going to tell the story in two more seasons – and backwards," he explained.

IT: Welcome to Derry ends with a clever twist that sets up season 2 in an unexpected way, and now fans can't wait to see these promises realized.
