'It wasn't like that when I set off': Driver caught on the motorway with carpet covering windscreen

One driver had a very miserable experience this afternoon when a roll of carpet strapped to the top of his van drooped over the windscreen, limiting his vision.

Officers from GMP's traffic team spotted the white van travelling along the M56 in a downpour with a large roll of carpet strapped to the top.

Weather condition had made the roll a bit soggy, leading the carpet to sag over the windscreen and back end of the van.

Police pulled the driver over because of the unsafe load, only to be told it wasn't like that when the driver set off.

A post on the GMP Traffic Twitter page read: "This vehicle was seen driving along M56 in the pouring down rain by XT11.

"Load carried not only presented a danger to others but reduced the drivers view of the road ahead.

"Driver stated “it wasn’t like that when I set off”. "

Officers issued the driver with a PG9 - a vehicle prohibition notice that bans a driver from using the vehicle.

Officers stopped the van just off the M56 (Greater Manchester Police)

These notices can come into effect immediately or after a short period of time.

The driver was also reported for the offence.
