It was wetter inside a Northern train than outside during the commute this morning

It was wetter inside than out during a trip on a Northern train this morning.

Footage sent by a passenger shows water streaming into the carriage from the during a Monday morning commute.

It was captured by a passenger on the 7.59am Cheadle Hulme to Manchester service during a bout of heavy rain.

In the clip rainwater can be seen falling from the roof onto a seat below.

The water can be seen collecting in a puddle on the floor.

Rail bosses have apologised and admitted that some of the current fleet of pacer trains have "outlived their usefulness".

It's not the first time MEN readers have contacted us about leaking Northern trains.

In September last year, we were sent a video of rain pouring in a service from Wigan to Stockport, leaving the floor between two carriages flooded.

And two months later, another video showed a train leaking so badly a passenger joked it came with an 'in-built shower'.

Northern says Pacer trains are being replaced and the rest of the fleet refurbished.

A spokesman said: “We apologise to any customers who experienced the leak on our service yesterday.

"The matter has been reported and will be dealt with appropriately.

Northern has admitted some its trains have 'outlived their usefulness' (MEN MEDIA)

“We know that some of our older trains have outlived their usefulness and that’s why we have started to remove Pacers from the network - replacing them with 101 brand new trains, the first 20 of which are already in passenger service.

“The rest of our fleet – around 243 trains – will be completely refurbished to a high standard, ensuring that wherever our customers travel in the Northern network, they will do so in comfort and with more space than ever before.”
