'It was mad' - Patrick Bamford lifts lid on Marcelo Bielsa training ground celebration

It was one of the most heartwarming moments of last season.

Patrick Bamford was working his way back to full fitness following a recent knee injury during a foggy autumnal training session at Thorp Arch.

A long diagonal ball was played out to Bamford on the left-hand side of the penalty area and the Leeds United number nine met it first time with a stunning, crisp first-time volley that flew across Will Huffer and into the back of the net. Think Marco van Basten in the Euro 88 final.

The strike was picked up by the camera at Throp Arch and cries of 'oh my days' and 'oh Patrick' could be heard before a figure is seen running towards the forward from the centre circle, arms outstretched.

That, of course, was Marcelo Bielsa who embraced his striker with a bear hug on the edge of the penalty box, in a clip that went viral after Leeds posted it on their Twitter account.

The clip has clocked up more than 1.3million views since and Bamford has finally discussed what it is like to be on the receiving end of a Bielsa hug.

"It was strange to be honest," he said during a Q&A session on Leeds' Twitter page. "Because as a manager he's not the kind of manager you'd go into his room and sit down and have a chat with. Obviously there's a language barrier but there's a very professional relationship in terms of there's such a respect for him that you just wouldn't do that.

"It's kind of like hands-offish with the players in certain regards but when he came running over for a hug, I was a bit like 'oh, do I go to him, do I stay still?'.

"It was when Coops shouted 'Pat, run to him' I ran to him. It was mad."

Should Bamford be able to repeat the strike when football eventually returns, he admits he won't be able to resist repeating it.

"If I scored that goal again in a game then I think I'd sprint straight up to him for a laugh really," he continued. "I think that was the whole reason why that video went so massive. It went viral. I

"f I'd have scored that goal it probably would have gone a bit popular and crazy with the Leeds fans, but the fact that he ran across the pitch to give me a hug - Marcelo Bielsa running across a pitch to hug someone after a training goal - it seemed to go everywhere around the world.

"It was pretty crazy."

Bielsa himself was asked about the celebration last season.

"It was a spontaneous reaction when I saw the beautiful goal from a player that is not playing now," he said.

"That's why I allowed myself to make this excess."
