'It was like Christmas': Doctor hails Conor McGregor after unexpected PPE donation

A doctor has hailed a vital PPE delivery from Conor McGregor, saying without it her surgery would have ran out of protective gowns.

Dr. Nina Byrnes, Medical Director at Generation Health Medical Clinics in Dublin, described how McGregor arrived unexpectedly this week with a massive donation.

A total of 18,000 gowns, 30,000 masks, 30,000 visors and 120,000 gloves, paid for by the UFC star, were delivered around the country this week.

And after checking the delivery, Byrnes found herself rushing to thank McGregor, describing the moment by saying 'it was like Christmas'.

“He himself and his team arrived into my surgery yesterday unexpected with a box. We were so shocked we sort of said, ‘Thank you,’ and were stunned", Byrnes said on The Tonight Show on Virgin Media One last night.

"When they went out the door we opened the box and realised that they were gowns, and honestly it was like Christmas. Myself and my manager ran downstairs after them to thank them because we had been trying really hard to get gowns.

"We could only find them at €9 a gown and you had to order 200, and we couldn’t afford to do that. So I would have had no gowns today if not for the charity.”

McGregor personally helped to deliver his latest batch of PPE to Irish hospitals on Wednesday.

The UFC star could be seen pushing a trolley of equipment and speaking to medical staff in photos posted online.

McGregor said on Twitter: "28 counties. 165 locations. 18 vans. A real solid day for the team! Tomorrow we go again. Thank you all involved!"

Last month, McGregor personally delivered medical supplies to Crumlin Children's Hospital in Dublin. The UFC star has donated over €1.5million worth of equipment since the coronavirus pandemic began.
