Residents have shared their disbelief after being awoken on Sunday morning to a five-vehicle crash outside their home which saw a person rushed to hospital.
Emergency services were called to Hyde Road in Gorton, near Debdale Park and the Reddish bridge, just after 10am this morning (April 30) following reports of a five-car collision.
One person was cut from a vehicle and airlifted to hospital, with two others receiving treatment from ambulance staff at the scene. Pictures from the scene showed one vehicle on its roof, while another appeared to have smashed into a wall.

Describing the moment they became aware of the incident, one resident, who asked not to be named, said: “I was sitting in the living room and I just heard an almighty bang. I came outside to look what had happened and I saw a car on its head, and it looked really serious.
“I then saw there were a few other cars involved too. A lot of ambulances were here right away and an air ambulance landed nearby. We could see one person was being treated by paramedics, I really hope everyone is okay."
Hyde Road was cordoned off for four hours, with the road closed off to traffic in both directions until it reopened at around 2pm.
“The sirens woke us up," another resident said. "I think there were around eight ambulances at one point, it was just crazy. It looked really bad."
Other residents also raised concerns about speed measures on the road and mentioned how in July last year a young man was killed after a Range Rover smashed into a phone mast.

“We need speed cameras and signs saying it's a 30mph road,” one resident, who has lived off Hyde Road for close to two years now, said. “There is a park nearby and a McDonald’s, and lots of people here have children. It can be really dangerous at times.”
“I think it’s a really busy road. It feels like there is a crash here almost every other week. We didn’t even hear it (this morning), we’re so used to crashes here that we’re sort of desensitised to it. It was only when we heard the air ambulance above us that we thought something had happened.”
Another resident, who said they have also lived just off Hyde Road for a number of years, said they believed the road has become worse since it was widened in 2021.
As part of a huge £5.9 million project, the former railway bridge above the road was removed and replaced with a modern 25 metre-long footbridge, allowing the road to be widened from two to four lanes of traffic.

“Ever since they widened the road up, it just feels like there’s always accidents here,” they explained. “We have crashes every month. It’s a busy road but there’s no speed bumps or cameras.”
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At around 10:10am this morning (Sunday 30 April) we were called to attend the scene of a road traffic collision involving five vehicles near the junction of Hyde Road and Wall Way, Manchester.
"Two fire engines from Gorton fire station and the Technical Response Unit from Leigh were quickly mobilised to attend. Firefighters used cutting equipment to extricate one casualty from one of the vehicles and transfer them into the care of paramedics from North West Ambulance Service.
"Two other people were also assessed at the scene by colleagues from NWAS. Crews were in attendance for around an hour and a half.”
Greater Manchester Police has been approached for more information.
