'It was a total disgrace': Football match 'abandoned in 90th minute' after 'brawl' breaks out on pitch

A football match was forced to be 'abandoned in the 90th minute' after a 'brawl' broke out on the pitch, according to eyewitnesses.

Shocking footage has emerged of a melee during a match between Mossley AFC and Lower Breck on Tuesday (August 24).

The FA Cup game was 'abandoned' in its final moments with the score at 2-0 to Mossley at the club's home ground, Seel Park.

The match was forced to end after a fight ensued involving 'players and the crowd', say witnesses.

"The game was competitive but finely balanced until Mossley scored their second goal and then it slowly descended into chaos," said an eyewitness, who wishes to remain anonymous.

"It was a total disgrace, I have never seen anything like it in my 50 years of going to football matches.

"This went on for about 10 to 15 minutes before the referee abandoned the game.

"I am just glad nobody got seriously hurt because of their bad behaviour."

In a tweet posted last night by Mossley AFC, the club said: "The match has been abandoned in the 90th minute with the score 2-0 to Mossley."

Both football clubs declined to comment after being approached by the Manchester Evening News.

Matthew Hayton, director of Mossley AFC, said: "We won’t be making any comment as that may prejudice any enquiry and subsequent action that may need to be taken by the relevant bodies."

Lower Breck FC secretary Jim Davies said: "We will await the referees report."

Greater Manchester Police has also been approached for comment.
