'It was a definite penalty': Pundit feels NUFC could have had TWO penalties against Everton

Newcastle United should have been awarded a penalty in the dying moments of the game against Everton - one of two they should have got.

That is the verdict of Kevin Kilbane. The former Everton winger was on punditry duty for BBC's Final Score and offered his view as Djibril Sidibe and Andy Carroll clashed in the box with the score at 2-1 in the Toffees' favour.

The referee waved away appeals but replays show Sidibe arms outstretched and with two hands on Carroll's back sending the Toon number seven to the floor.

Reviewing the incident, Kilbane said: "We've seen a number of incidents in this game.

"We could have had three penalties so far. For me, it's a push from Djbril Sidibie on Andy Carroll.

"He does go over easily but it's definite shove and a penalty!"

The game ended 2-1, leaving United's unbeaten run at home in tatters, and adding to what has been a dreadful festive run-in so far with the Magpies now losing two in a row.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin put Everton ahead after 13 minutes before Fabian Schar leveled the score just before the hour mark.

But, in what was an unusual trait for the Magpies this season, the defence was left open for Everton take the lead again just nine minutes later - Calvert-Lewin poking home, unmarked, from close range.

With two minutes on the clock, Shelvey whipped a free-kick in and Carroll jumped to meet it before falling to the floor - with Sidibe adjudged not to have fouled him.

Miguel Almiron could have also had a penalty with just a few minutes on the clock, but the forward stayed on his feet with Chris Waddle saying he was 'punished' for doing the 'right thing', while Fabian Schar also had soft claims late in the second.

Kilbane also believe that Federico Fernandez as lucky not to concede a penalty as sending Calvert-Lewin to the floor in the first half.
