It was busy bank holiday weekend for police in Manchester city centre as officers made a whopping 34 arrests.

The arrests were made between Friday to Sunday over the spring bank holiday.

Offences included include possession of drugs, assaulting emergency workers and possession of weapons.

In a post on the GMP city centre Facebook page, Inspector Jon Middleton listed some reasons people were detained.

A 31-year-old man was arrested in Piccadilly Gardens on suspicion of possession of drugs and breach of bail.

Another man, 32, was apprehended on Tib Street on suspicion of possession of drugs.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and other offences on John Dalton Street.

On Marble Street, a 19-year-old man was seized on suspicion of possessing a hammer and other offences.

Police made 34 arrests in the city centre over bank holiday weekend (GMP)

A 30-year-old man was arrested suspected of drug dealing on Adair Street.

Some Facebook users praised the force for their work.

The city centre arrests come as Piccadilly Gardens was named as one of the worst crime hot-spots in the country.

In March this year a judge declared the area as a 'no-go' zone for many people.
