LOS ANGELES _ HBO has at long last confirmed a "Deadwood" movie is happening.
Taking the stage at the Television Critics Assn. press tour Thursday in Beverly Hills, Calif., the network's programming president, Casey Bloys, confirmed that a movie had been greenlit.
Production will begin in October, with Dan Minahan, who served as a director on the series, helming the project.
The critically-acclaimed, cult favorite drama from David Milch ran for three seasons on HBO, premiering in 2004 and reaching its end in 2006 after a dispute between Paramount, its studio, and the network. There was promise of a two-hour movie in place of a fourth season, but it failed to materialize. Until now _ if things go as planned, of course.
While no release date has been locked, Bloys said the hope is to have the movie air in spring 2019. That's where the details stopped.
"Let's take the greenlight and celebrate it," he said.
