It sounds like Vikings rookie RB Alexander Mattison is a bit dinged up

Vikings rookie running back Alexander Mattison has been impressing his team so far in training camp, but there’s some growing speculation that he might not play in Friday’s preseason opener in New Orleans against the Saints.

“Hopefully he can play and then if he can, then we will give him a good dose,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said on Wednesday. ” . . . We will have to see if he can play or not.”

We don’t know exactly what the injury is, but judging by the nature of Zimmer’s comments, it feels like there’s some sort of injury.

The team would love Mattison, the team’s third-round pick, to play, but if he’s hurt, the best move is to let him rest.

On the team’s first depth chart release, Mattison was listed as the team’s backup running back behind Dalvin Cook and in front of Ameer Abdullah.
