It sounds like Marvin Lewis could be an NFL coach again soon

This didn’t take long.

Former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis spent his first season away from the team in 16 years working with Arizona State. It was safe to presume he’d stick down there given the success and proximity to family.

But the NFL beckons.

Lewis might’ve had his problems in ways during his stint with the Bengals but he has a sterling NFL reputation.

That would explain why he’s been reported as a favorite to serve as the next head coach of the Washington Redskins by Alex Marvez of SiriusXM, as well as a host of others.

If Lewis is in consideration there, he’s likely a candidate at multiple stops. He clearly wasn’t a guy who could push a good team to serious contention, but he is a guy who can pull a bad team up into respectability — which is something the reeling Redskins have needed for a long time.

With Black Monday nearly here and plenty of vacancies set to open, don’t expect to wait long to see Lewis back in the league.
