It sounds like Colt McCoy could earn the nod over Dwayne Haskins

Which quarterback starts under center for the Washington Redskins in Week 4 against the New York Giants remains a mystery.

With a foot injury to Case Keenum revealed, the logical next idea was the starting job would go to the rookie Dwayne Haskins.

But there is a wrinkle to consider: Colt McCoy. Both guys have split reps already.

ESPN’s John Keim laid out the current situation: “Jay Gruden said he assumes Keenum will play. Will know more Thursday. As of now Haskins would be next man up— but that depends on where McCoy is with his leg and their confidence in Haskins and their game plan.”

That’s a whole wealth fo variables for the team to consider on such a short turnround. It can understandably be read that the staff would prefer McCoy over Haskins at this stage for a few reasons.

In the end, it would be nice for all involved if Keenum ended up being able to play since it’s clear the staff doesn’t want to throw in the towel on him just yet. The alternative is throwing Haskins out before they think he’s ready or getting McCoy out there on short notice when he’s just gotten back to form.
