'It sounded like a man screaming': Doctor dies after being shot in Brisbane home

Forensic officers are examining a four-wheel drive in Delfin Drive.

A 56-year-old doctor has died after being shot in the garage of his MacGregor home while his wife and daughters were inside.

Dr Luping Zeng, a GP who worked at a skin care clinic at Waterford, south of Brisbane, was shot in the chest around 11:40pm on Monday.

Detective Acting Inspector Steven McCartney said a small, light-coloured sedan or hatchback was seen leaving the scene at Delfin Drive.

He said Dr Zeng's wife and two children were home at the time.

"They didn't witness it directly but were able to come out and provide assistance and call police and ambulance shortly afterwards," Detective Acting Inspector McCartney said.

Dr Zeng died after being taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital.

A neighbour said he knew the family and heard the gunshot.

"One gunshot and then it sounded like a man screaming for a little bit, like five seconds," he said.

"It just sounded like the last breath from the guy, it was not a normal scream, just like crying out.

"Couldn't hear anything after that.

"Normally you think MacGregor is quite a safe place and you normally wouldn't think anything like this would happen."

Dr Zeng's wife is also a doctor.

Police said they believed it was a random attack.

Detective Acting Inspector McCartney said police were still investigating whether or not Dr Zeng knew his attacker.

"The QPS are expending a great deal of resources in attempting to locate the person responsible," he said.

"At this point in time we believe it's one person, but it could possibly be more.

"We're now seeking the community's cooperation in checking their CCTV, their dashcam footage and speaking with their neighbours and asking any information they can provide to the police to ring Crime Stoppers."
