It seems the best Fallout game is being remastered after all

In the past few days, we've gotten wind of a potential Fallout 3 remaster that's in the works. The 17-year-old game certainly deserves it, as a lot of its parts could use some polish, especially at the engine level. But it appears another remaster is coming, too - New Vegas.

Having released around the same time as Fallout 3, New Vegas is, in my humble opinion, the best Fallout in existence. It was made by much of the same people who made Fallout 1 and 2, and has impeccable writing and role-play elements that have withstood the test of time in the past decade and a half.

But what didn't withstand any test either at the time or now is the game's engine (which Bethesda still uses, by the way). The game was made in about a year under incredible pressure and a super short deadline that meant optimization and polish had to be set aside. It ran poorly back then, and it runs horribly even now, perhaps more so due to incompatibilities between older software and the current Windows OS.

The community has made countless unofficial patches in the hopes of fixing this, and has largely done a good job of doing so. But crashes, bugs, and all sorts of problems persist, and represent just about the only flaw New Vegas has. So, thankfully, it appears Bethesda is going to remaster the game, that is according to Jez Corden, one of the most reputable Microsoft insiders and leakers out there.

He casually dropped this leak in the replies of a random tweet, missing the spotlight because of that.

He didn't provide much else to go off of, but I will take anything I can get. However, Bethesda's own executives have, on numerous occasions, hinted at various Fallout projects that are in the works, which could be remasters, remakes, or Fallout 5, lending credence to every Fallout-related theory out there.

New Vegas is nearly a perfect game, but having the chance to play it properly on modern systems would be a dream come true. Of course, Bethesda isn't a company known for fixing things as much as breaking them, but New Vegas can't be broken more than it already is.

The only thing that could surpass this remaster is if Bethesda remade Fallout 1 and 2 as fully-fledged 3D games built in the Creation Engine like its other games. That'd be news of the decade, but also inspire a lot of fear that these two games would meet the same technical fate as other games produced by the company.

All in all, the New Vegas remaster seems to be coming along, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
