'It seems clear' - Nottingham Forest defender Yohan Benalouane reacts to red card at Sheffield United

Defender Yohan Benalouane looks set to miss Monday’s Easter Monday clash with Middlesbrough, after being sent off in Friday’s 2-0 defeat at Sheffield United.

The Tunisian defender was given a straight red card by referee Andy Madley for bringing down David McGoldrick on the edge of the box only two minutes into the second half.

Benalouane tweeted a picture of the incident on Saturday morning, with the caption ‘it seems clear’ - there were suggestions that the Nottingham Forest defender didn’t make any contact with former Red McGoldrick.

He later deleted that tweet.

The sending off proved to be a pivotal moment in the game at Bramall Lane, with the score level at 0-0 – and it took just four minutes for the Blades to make their extra man count, when Mark Duffy crashed a fine effort into Costel Pantilimon's top corner, before Enda Stevens fired in the second just five minutes from time.

Forest boss Martin O’Neill was far from happy with Madley’s decision, and said the Reds would consider an appeal .

Nottingham Forest told they must back Martin O'Neill in the transfer market

“He is in the dressing room saying that he never touched the player and, having seen it back, it did not look as though he did,” said the Reds boss.

“But the main bone of contention was whether Wague was in a position where he could cover and it looks, to me, like he would have been able to do that.

“I will genuinely have another look at it again, because we saw one particular angle that appeared to show that he did not make contact.

“We will have another look at it again and decide whether we want to appeal.”
