Jamie Carragher has taken aim at Harry Kane after the forward reportedly failed to show up to Tottenham Hotspur training this morning.
The Spurs and England captain was scheduled to have coronavirus testing today before starting pre-season training Tuesday.
However, it is claimed that Kane has not arrived at Spurs’ Enfield-based training complex as planned following a recent holiday in the Bahamas.
Spurs have offered no explanation for why the 28-year-old did not turn up after he was given a three-week break following England’s Euro 2020final appearance against Italy.
Taking to Twitter in the aftermath of the news, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand offered a defence of the forward.
He wrote: “And I’m not saying that @HKane and his tactics to leave are wrong (if we are to believe what’s being said). Harry wants trophies and he ain’t getting any younger.”
But Carragherhit back at Ferdinand’s statement, claiming that Kane’s actions risk him losing his relationship with Spurs supporters.
He said: “I disagree, it is wrong not to turn up for training. We all know he wants to go & can totally understand why.
“But Harry should not ruin his name or relationship with the supporters who idolise him just to get the move. Spurs will always be HIS club. #Kane.”
Kane has been linked with a move to Manchester City this summer but Tottenham have so far dug their heels in and are not keen on losing their star man.
But some reports claim that Kane believes he had a gentleman's agreement with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy that he could leave the club this summer.
However, Carragher laughed off that claim when faced with that statement on social media and questioned why Kane signed a six-year deal with the club back in 2018 if that was the case.
He wrote: “So why sign a 6 year contract? Gentleman’s agreement.”
Kane scored 23 top-flight goals last season to claim the Premier Leaguegolden boot and has 221 Tottenham goals to his name.
