'It's up to us' - Brighton boss Graham Potter's praise for Leeds United ahead of weekend clash

Brighton boss Graham Potter has spoken highly of Jesse Marsch and Leeds United ahead of their Saturday afternoon clash at the Amex.

Last time the two sides faced off, Leeds were fighting for Premier League survival while high flying Brighton were riding the crest of a wave.

Pascal Struijk's injury time equaliser back in May secured Leeds a point in a 1-1 draw at Elland Road that helped the Whites in their battle to avoid the drop.

However, the mood around Leeds this time around is a completely different one. Despite the departures of key men Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha this summer, the Whites have enjoyed an excellent start to the Premier League season.

So far, Jesse Marsch's side have won two of their opening three games, which includes a 3-0 win over Chelsea. Had it not been for some battling spirit from Southampton, who came from 2-0 down to grab a draw against the Whites, then Leeds would have maximum points from their opening three fixtures.

And speaking ahead of the weekend clash between Brighton and Leeds, Potter believes his side need to be wary of the threat Marsch and co pose, especially after their strong start to the new campaign.

"Overall, I was really impressed," said Potter about Leeds' 3-0 win over Chelsea.

"You have to respect it [Leeds' press], compete against it and bring your own game. Jesse as a coach has had real success. He absolutely knows what he's doing. It's up to us to respect that and adapt to that.

"Leeds have made a really good start. I've got a lot of respect for Jesse Marsch, it's not an easy job. To keep them up was a fantastic achievement and now you can see them evolving into a Jesse team. Collectively, Leeds have a good understanding of how they work. It looks like they're in a good place, and it should be a good game.”
