Too early to judge Arsenal boss Unai Emery - he's shown he has quality

It's far too early to judge Unai Emery at Arsenal .

There have been whispers of the players not getting him or understanding his tactics, but I think you’ve seen enough already from him to believe he can get it right there.

There are problems, obviously. Even I was baffled by his tactics at Anfield. They could have lost 7-1 there, because they were taken apart in a spell after half-time.

Yet they got to the Europa League final in his first season, and he’s putting together a decent side, with an incredible attack.

I think he’s a coach who likes to create a different plan for each team he faces, and that can be a learning process for some players.

Yet Jurgen Klopp does that too. Watch Liverpool closely, and they tweak their tactics each game, to exploit weakness in the opposition.

I remember when, as Sevilla boss, Emery took Klopp’s side apart in the second half of the 2016 Europa League final, with a brilliant tweak of his tactics.

Emery is a manager who can cope with egos and get the best from players.

He’s also managed some big clubs, been head-hunted by some of the biggest. He has quality – but he is also in a league where there are some of the best managers in the world.

In fact, I look at the likes of Barca, Bayern and even Real Madrid, and I wonder if their coaches are not quite at the level of the likes of Guardiola, Klopp, and Pochettino at the moment.

So I’d rather wait and see what Emery can do at Arsenal, rather than jump on this bandwagon which is already killing him with the season only four games old.
