It's too early to decide on Meath future says boss Andy McEntee

Andy McEntee says it’s too early for him to decide if he wants to remain in the Meath hot-seat.

McEntee, who has completed three years in the role, guided the Royals into the Super 8s for the first time this summer after Meath regained Division 1 status in the league.

“That’s not my call and it’s probably a little early to be even asking it,” he said, regarding his future. “Certainly it’s early to be thinking about it.”

Two nine point defeats in the series, to Donegal and Mayo, and Saturday’s eight-point loss to Kerry, aren’t a fair reflection of Meath’s performances, but they fell away in the last 10 minutes of each game.

“We’re improving is what you’re saying, another couple of games and we’ll be right there” McEntee said, tongue firmly in cheek.

“No disrespect to anybody, we’re playing teams who have been playing at this level a number of years - five, six seven, years - and this is our first experience playing strong teams.

“Every player you come up against is a strong and athletic player - and that’s a constant pounding and pounding and pounding.

“And we’ve just got to get used to being able to live with that for a little bit longer.

“It’s hugely different. We’re in a different place with regards that’s our 16th competitive game tonight. If Dublin or Kerry go on and win (their semi-finals) they will play 15 competitive games.

“That’s great for us. The real hard part about last year was we got to play two championship games. This year we got eight. That in itself has us in a totally different place”.
