April 14, 1928 - Rangers 4-0 Celtic:
Despite Rangers’ dominance of the league title in the 1920’s, the Scottish Cup was elusive.
But they finally got their hands on the trophy against Old Firm rivals Celtic in front of 118,000 fans at Hampden - a then record attendance.
Skipper Davie Meiklejohn scored a penalty before Bob McPhail’s strike and a Sandy Archibald double secured the victory - the club’s first Scottish Cup triumph in 25 years.
November 28, 1945 - Rangers 2-2 Moscow Dynamo:
The most keenly anticipated match in Scotland since the outbreak of World War II, with huge interest in the Russian club’s 1945 UK tour.
They had already beaten Arsenal, drawn with Chelsea and hammered Cardiff City 10-1.
By the time they arrived at Ibrox, 90,000 supporters were fascinated by the prospect of Moscow Dynamo’s revolutionary passing style against the power of Rangers.
Gers were 2-0 down inside 24 minutes, with Willie Waddell missing a penalty.
Centre-forward Jimmy Smith pulled a goal back, before George Young’s spot kick earned a draw - and saved the reputation of British clubs.
May 27, 1961 - Fiorentina 2-1 Rangers:
Rangers’ first major European final was a hugely significant moment in their history as they were the first British club to achieve the feat.
The cynical Italians did a number on Gers at Ibrox in the first match in which Eric Caldow missed a penalty.
They took a 2-0 lead to the Stadio Communal where Gers produced a stronger performance.
Alex Scott’s leveller offered a glimmer of hope at 1-1 - but a sucker punch late on meant Viola lifted the trophy.
September 25, 1963 - Rangers 0-1 Real Madrid:
When Steven Gerrard’s Rangers took on Real Madrid at Ibrox recently, it was the first time the clubs had met in 48 years.
And their 1963 European Cup first-leg clash was of far more importance.
Los Blancos were the most revered side in the world and three years previously, they’d won the trophy at Hampden by beating Eintracht Frankfurt 7-3.
With iconic forward Ferenc Puskas in their line-up, Gers bumped up admission prices to a massive 10 shillings for the Spaniards’ visit.
The Hungarian legend scored a volley in front of 80,000 fans to win it.
And in the return at Bernabeu, he helped himself to a hat-trick in a 6-0 rout.
May 31, 1967 - Bayern Munich 1-0 Rangers:
Just six days after Celtic won the European Cup, Scot Symon’s side competed in their second Euro final against Bayern in Nuremberg.
These were heady times for Scottish clubs and the Ibrox men were desperate to make it a double.
But Bayern’s team was full of emerging superstars in the shape of Sepp Maier, Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Muller.
Roger Hynd missed a gilt-edged chance to break the deadlock for Rangers but it wasn’t their night.
Gers took the Germans all the way to extra-time but Franz Roth’s goal secured the trophy.
April 19, 1972 - Rangers 2-0 Bayern Munich:
This was one of the greatest European nights at Ibrox.
Revenge was in the air against Bayern, who were even stronger than five years previously, with Muller and Beckenbauer now established stars.
A couple of months later, six of them were in West Germany’s starting line-up for their victory in the European Championship Final.
And two years later, they were World Cup winners.
But Rangers were too strong in Govan, with Sandy Jardine scoring after less than a minute.
After a 1-1 first-leg draw in Munich, it was the perfect start for Willie Waddell’s side.
Derek Parlane made it 2-0 and that cemented Gers’ place in a third European final.
What fans said: A crowd of 80,000 witnessed a fantastic performance in the European Cup Winners Cup by Rangers on the night. Two great goals by Sandy Jardine and Derek Parlane won the match. Beckenbauer was so disgusted with the stick he got from the fans that he 'spat his dummy out' and kicked the ball out of the park. Gerd Muller hardly kicked a ball thanks to the brilliant man marking by Colin Jackson.
May 24, 1972 - Rangers 3-2 Dynamo Moscow:
This was Rangers’ nadir at the Nou Camp. The night when ‘The Barcelona Bears’ were born.
It was third time lucky for the club in the European Cup Winners Cup and they did it the hard way - beating Rennes, Sporting Lisbon, Torino and Bayern on the way.
Rangers got off to a brilliant start, going 2-0 up through Colin Stein and Willie Johnston.
When Johnston made it three, they had one hand on the trophy.
But two Dynamo goals made it nervy for the travelling Rangers support.
And at the final whistle, their emotions took over as they invaded the pitch to celebrate.
Legendary captain John Greig was forced to receive the trophy from UEFA on his own - before returning to a jubilant dressing-room.
May 2, 1999: Celtic 0-3 Rangers:
There can’t be a better feeling in football than winning a title at the home of your deadliest rivals.
And when Neil McCann opened the scoring, it was the catalyst for one of the most controversial Old Firm derbies ever.
Stephane Mahe was sent off early on and it infuriated the home crowd.
Ref Hugh Dallas was treated for a head wound after being struck with a coin then awarded Rangers a penalty.
Jörg Albertz made it 2-0 and, against 10 men, Advocaat’s men weren’t going to be caught.
McCann buried Celtic with a third and the Rangers players rubbed salt in their wound with a celebratory ‘huddle’ on the pitch - a ritual the Hoops were renowned for.
What fans said: Winning the league at Celtic Park. I was 15 and was there with my dad. It's my favourite ever game and always will be. Nothing will beat that beautiful Sunday, it was as Lou Reed said such a perfect day.
November 4, 1992: Leeds United 1-2 Rangers:
The Battle of Britain between Scotland and England’s best for a place in the Champions League.
In 1992, it didn’t get any bigger than that - that's why this tie will live long in the memory of Rangers supporters the world over.
After securing a 2-1 win in the first-leg at Ibrox, few people gave Walter Smith’s side a chance at Elland Road.
But Howard Wilkinson’s team, which had Eric Cantona in its ranks, should have known better.
Mark Hateley stunned the English with an incredible strike then set up Ally McCoist for a sublime diving header to clinch it.
May 14, 2008: Zenit St Petersburg 2-0 Rangers:
This Rangers team had no right to reach a European final.
When Walter Smith returned to the club 18 months earlier, his remit was to get them challenging domestically again.
But they embarked on a UEFA Cup run that took them to Manchester, followed by 150,000 supporters.
After seeing off Werder Bremen, Sporting Lisbon and Fiorentina, this proved to be a step too far against a classy Russian outfit.
Managed by ex-Gers boss Dick Advocaat, they had the star of the show in Andrey Arshavin.
Rangers were running on empty and strikes from Igor Denisov and Konstantin Zyryanov won it for Zenit.
