'It's time to move on' - Steve Bruce verdict on Rafa Benitez's Newcastle United comments

Steve Bruce has refused to wade into a war of words with Rafa Benitez following his hard-hitting comments directed towards Newcastle United managing director Lee Charnley this week.

The Toon head coach has pleaded with supporters to move on from the situation.

When asked about Benitez's comments, Bruce said: "I have not seen them, I don't take much notice.

"Rafa is an experienced coach.

"Everybody was disappointed with the way he left.

"He's a very good manager who did well and a lot of people are upset.

"He's gone to China and it's time to move on."

Bruce takes his Toon side to Norwich this weekend and is desperate to record his first victory after losing narrowly to Arsenal last weekend.

Looking ahead to the game, he said: "I don't think we won until November (last season).

"So it will be vitally important to get some results.

"Let's hope we can get off and running at Norwich.

"We went for an hour with Arsenal and went toe to toe.

"We didn't get to the levels in the second half.

"There were a lot of positives."

Bruce has now been in charge for a month at Newcastle.

He said: "We have an opportunity at Norwich, then an easy one at Spurs next week!

"It's always hard in the Premier League.

"Whatever league you are in the one thing you want is a decent start.

"We will get better as we go on.

"The new lads need to settle down, they only came in last week."
