It's time the Tories sent Boris Johnson packing if they care about Union

Billy no-mates is coming to Scotland today in the forlorn hope that a picture opportunity will somehow distract from the flashing blue lights outside Downing Street.

Boris Johnson is kidding no one if he thinks his high-viz jacket strategy of having his picture taken will either improve his chances of
escaping the law or improve the chances of the Conservative Party in Scotland.

A few glib lines about levelling up and a smirking non-answer when he is asked about the very serious breaches of the lockdown regulations on his watch under his roof simply will not cut it.

Three quarters of Scots think that Johnson should resign over the partygate scandals, according to the latest polls.

Among them is the Scottish leader of his own party, Douglas Ross, who, unlike the spineless Scottish Tory MPs, is not waiting for the VAR replay of the Sue Gray report to show Johnson the red card.

But Johnson is determined to rub Ross’s nose by coming to Scotland and snubbing the leader of the Scottish party as if he does not matter.

It is quite clear that Scotland doesn’t matter to Johnson either and the SNP are correct in their assessment that he is a gift to the independence cause.

But if the Tories do care about the Union – and in people’s faith in democracy – they should act now and make sure his next trip is a one way ticket out of Downing Street.
