How can anyone speculate on the feminist films that need to be made and not include Greenham Common (Lights, camera, action: feminist films that need to be made, G2, 30 October)? The majority of those in our cultural, historical and political organisations who decide what the nation is allowed to remember seem to regard the protest against nuclear weapons by women at Greenham as irrelevant.
The ignoring of the two-decade-long protest at Greenham by the film industry is, however, marginally better than creating a play on the subject – as the Royal Court will do in 2019 – which is written and directed by men. Men, as we all remember, were banned from the Greenham peace camps. Why does any discussion around cultural appropriation never include gender?
