'It's time for dead weight Liz Truss to leave - the government cannot operate with her'

There is no point in Liz Truss staying in No10. She has lost the confidence of her MPs and, more importantly, the country.

To be in office but not in power serves nobody. Decisions cannot be made, reforms cannot be implemented.

The government cannot operate.

Ms Truss has become a dead weight on the nation’s fortunes.

For as long as she lingers, businesses will not invest and the economy will be at the mercy of the markets.

If the Prime Minister had the best interests of the country and, for that matter, the Conservatives, at heart, she would resign.

She should realise that, as Tory MP Crispin Blunt so bluntly said: “The games’s up.”

Even if she fails to quit of her own volition, her MPs will simply force her out.

Although the Conservatives will do everything they can to avoid a general election, it is untenable for them to keep swapping leaders without the consent of the electorate.

The country is crying out for change.

Even big business has woken up to the fact that only Labour can provide the stability, fairness and seriousness we so desperately need.

Lift nurse pay

When nurses are using foodbanks, it’s obvious they deserve a pay rise. That is why they have taken the unprecedented step of balloting on industrial action.

Midwives, ambulance crews and physiotherapists could also walk out if denied an increase.

A government that valued the health service would appreciate how tough it is for workers battling rising food and fuel costs.

But Health Secretary Therese Coffey has ruled out additional support.

Her tight-fisted stance will drive yet more nurses from the profession. That’s bad for NHS morale – and terrible for patients.

Reining it in

King Charles has put 12 of his late mother’s prized racehorses up for sale.

Apparently, he wants to put the royal finances on a more stable footing.
