It's the late, late show on Albury-Wodonga line as passengers steam

May figures show 0.6 per cent of trains on the Albury/Wodonga arrived on time.

A Victorian Nationals MP is calling for action on the Albury-Wodonga train line after the latest performance data for the service showed just one train made it on time in May.

According to V/Line's performance figures for May, just 0.6 percent of trains on the Albury-Wodonga line were on time.

V/Line categorises trains as on time if they arrive within 11 minutes of the scheduled time for their long-distance services.

The organisation's punctuality target is 92 per cent.

Member for Euroa Steph Ryan said these figures were not a one off.

"The month of May is the worst I've ever seen it," she said.

"These are systemic issues we know that have been going on now for years, and we have been calling for years for action from the Government."

Past performance figures for the Albury-Wodonga line show in April 1.1 per cent of trains were on time.

'Hopeless situation'

Violet Town resident Iain Atkin uses the V/Line service to Melbourne at least once a week to get to medical appointments and treatments.

He said he could not make it to his appointments on time because of the time delays.

"It is a hopeless situation," he said.

"I can't make any appointment before 11o'clock at the moment because I know it's not going to make it there."

Ms Ryan is asking the State Government to put together a working party with politicians from the local region, councils and community action groups to address the issue.

The Minister for Public Transport, Melissa Horne, said the line had experienced punctuality issues over the past few months after the Australia Rail Track Corporation imposed speed restrictions after a train derailment at Wallan in February.

"The ARTC put a speed restriction on that line ensuring that line was safe to run trains on, as a result V/Line was operating within those speed restrictions which had an impact on their punctuality," she said.

Ms Horne said the restrictions were removed from June 3 and improvements had been seen on the line since then.

For the three months before the derailment, V/Line performance data shows between 44.9 percent and 69.3 percent of services were on time.
