"It's the break off" - Great British Bake Off fans react as showstopper left in tatters

Biscuit week can always be a difficult one for the Great British Bake Off contestants to navigate their way through - and it's not much easier when your showstopper has to resemble a childhood toy.

And for Met Police detective Amanda it looked as though her time in the Bake Off tent could have been hanging by a thread as her carousel horse fell to pieces.

The 56-year-old was assisted by fellow contestant Freya Cox as she tried to fix the unfortunate bake, but ultimately had to present judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood a broken masterpiece.

Unsure whether she would make the third round, Amanda said: “Mine's the only one that collapsed so I think my chances of staying are slim.”

And judging the horse Paul told her it could have been “the best we've ever had” but added: “I would never in a million years have chosen that biscuit to build this.”

Fans took to Twitter with hilarious comments about what Amanda's unfortunate horse could come to represent.

Eadaoin Macauley said: "It's the break off!"

Hayeslissack tweeted: "Alexa, show me a biscuit rocking horse that replicates the state of the UK at the moment."

While tRuth Hurts added: "I think it should be renamed Great British Break Off this week."

Hannah Dabinett said: "I really relate with that horse."

As Niall Power said: "All of us after 18 months of this pandemic."

Luckily for Amanda, she made it through to the next round as laid-back finance manager Jairzeno was eliminated from the tent.

The 51-year-old's brandy snaps were labelled "messy" while his boat-inspired showstopper had an unfortunate paint job and broken masts.

“It's more of a shipwreck than a ship,” he confessed, before showing it to the judges, who branded it “rough and ready”.

The Great British Bake Off continues next Tuesday at 8pm. Missed an episode so far? Catch up on All4.
