"It's such bad luck": Student left in shock after massive tree crushes her car during Storm Franklin

A student was left in shock after a huge tree crushed her car during Storm Franklin.

Sasha Little's Hyundai i10 was parked outside her boyfriend's home in Clifton Avenue, Fallowfield, when the tree collapsed in the early hours of Monday morning.

It came as torrential rain and strong winds battered Greater Manchester throughout the night.

Sasha, a third year biochemistry student at the University of Manchester, was asleep at the time and only discovered what had happened after waking up later that morning.

"We didn't hear it," the 21-year-old said.

"My boyfriend's housemate woke us up in the morning and said 'I think there's a tree that's fallen on your car'."

At first, Sasha says she did not believe what she was being told.

It was only when she went outside that she discovered her Hyundai i10 crushed beneath the tree.

"I was shocked," she said.

"The whole road was completely blocked with this tree.

"You couldn't get a bike around, it was so huge.

"The two cars next to mine were untouched."

Fortunately, no one was injured but Sasha's car has been written off as a result of the extensive damage.

She says she has been in touch with her insurance company and hopes to recover some money following the incident.

"It's pretty sad to see," said Sasha, who is originally from north London.

"It was my first little car and I've had it for about four years.

"I can't believe it happened to me. It's such bad luck."

Persistent wind and rain over the last week have brought down several trees across Greater Manchester.

Last Friday, gale force winds caused a large tree to fall onto two cars, a BMW and a Renault Clio, on Scarsdale Road in Victoria Park.

In Moston, dramatic pictures showed a fallen tree which landed partially in the playground of a children's centre on Monday morning.

Another huge tree fell onto a car on Kentmere Road in Timperley.

A large tree also fell across Bramhall Road in Stockport, leading to heavy traffic and long queues around the area.

Roads in Blackley, Middleton and Didsbury have been also been shut off due to fallen down trees.
