It's so hot people's shoes are shrinking fast in the heat and getting ruined

If you thought the heatwave was behind you, and you were secretly banking on autumn being just round the corner, then think again.

Once more this summer, the UK is enjoying blazing temperatures with the Met Office recording the highest late August bank holiday Monday temperature with highs of 33.2C.

Of course, not everyone welcomes the scorching heat.

But if you're secretly hankering after a cooler climate, then spare a thought for the folk in parts of America where it's SO hot, people's shoes are actually melting.

Twitter user Autumn_Kamrie shared an eye-opening picture of what, at first glance, look like they're Nike sliders for kids.

Bafflingly, they're actually size nine slippers for an adult but they've shrunk thanks to the heat.

Having left her shoes in the car, the heat had made fast work of shrinking them, with temperatures in Louisville, Kentucky on 22 August, the day of her post, recorded as being 31C outside - meaning it would have been a lot hotter inside the car.

Autumn captioned the post with: "If y'all wanna know how my day is going (And I’m sure you do)…"

The mishap rendered the sliders completely useless.

As it turns out, this was by no means an isolated incident.

Back here in the UK, cooler weather relief is on its way later in the week, but not before parts of the country are set to get battered by a month's worth of rain, frequent lightning strikes and hail.
