'It's scandalous' - Ex-Liverpool transfer chief Damien Comolli in furious tunnel rant

Former Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli made his anger clear to the referee after Toulouse’s win over Nantes yesterday.

Comolli spent almost a year and a half at Liverpool, with the signing of current club captain Jordan Henderson for £16 million in 2011 one of many new faces he brought to Anfield.

The former Reds transfer chief was brought in as president of the French Ligue 2 club in July of last year.

The appointment was made when US investment company RedBird Capital Partners acquired a 85 percent stake in the French club.

Toulouse were relegated to the second-tier after Ligue 1's 2019/2020 season ended in April of last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And his side will spend another season in the French second division after they were edged out by Nantes in the promotion/relegation play-off game.

Despite Toulouse claiming a 1-0 win last night, Nantes managed a 2-1 victory in the first leg, meaning they remain in the French top-flight thanks to the away goal rule.

But after being denied a second-half penalty for a disputed handball call, Comolli took aim at referee Benoit Bastien and VAR after the game.

“That is scandalous!,” Comolli is reported to have angrily shouted in the direction of the team of referees after the game according to Canal Football Club.

"What do I say to my players? How could you not whistle?"

Toulouse coach Patrice Garande also vented his anger after the final whistle, saying: “When I see the pictures, it’s a scandal.

“Please explain to me how you can’t decide on penalties. What is the VAR for? My players would have deserved Ligue 1.”

Meanwhile, the Nantes starting line-up featured former Liverpool midfielder Pedro Chirivella.

The Spanish midfielder completed a transfer to the Ligue 1 outfit in June of last year after turning down a five-year contract extension with the Reds.

Chirivella, who spent seven years at the club after joining from Valencia in 2013, made 11 senior appearances for Liverpool.
