“It’s raining ducklings’ Heart-stopping moment chicks born on Glasgow balcony make dramatic escape to reunite with mum

Scots ducklings born on a balcony made a dramatic voyage to find their mum and make it safely to a river.

It was 'raining ducks' as the nine babies were seen free-falling from the ledge to be with their anxious and quacking mum below in Glasgow.

Eyewitnesses were 'stunned' as they watched the heart-stopping moment the duckings landed on the ground before following their mother to nearby water.

A group of good samaritans rushed to help stop traffic and clear the path for the family who frantically made their way across Kimarnock Road.

Despite one duckling looking particularly weak, the mum and her babies all managed to arrive safely at the river together.

Posting the incredible footage on Facebook, Theresa Clancy said: “Some videos of the Trefoil ducks on their maiden trip to the river with Mama duck.

“All nine ducklings made it to the river although one was obviously very weak.

“Mama duck is grateful for all the assistance given to her family today.”

Theresa daughter Jenny Clancy, from the Southside of Glasgow, said:

“I spotted the mother duck, who we nicknamed Agnes, at the bottom of the flats.

“She was quacking a lot and seemed quite agitated.

“That’s when ducklings started falling down from the balcony.

"I was shocked when they hit the pavement but thankfully they got up okay.

“It was raining ducklings!

“A few people started to gather and helped herd the ducklings back towards their mum.

"She then started walking towards Kilmarnock Road with the ducklings following.

“She obviously knew where to go as she moved quite fast.

“A few people went ahead to help clear a path and others followed at the back to make sure they were all safe.

“When we got to the bridge on Kilmarnock Road the mother duck decided to cross so we held out hands to stop the traffic and thankfully the drivers were really patient.

“Must’ve looked quite strange! Then they were quickly down the bank and into the water.

“Such a relief to see them make it to safety.”
