'It's proper' - Will Hughes makes Selhurst Park admission ahead of Crystal Palace vs Man City

Will Hughes believes Selhurst Park is unlike any other stadium in the Premier League.

The Crystal Palace midfielder has been at the club for just over two years now and has played in a number of stadiums not just during his time as an Eagle but previously with Watford and Derby County, the club where he made his senior debut back in 2011.

But for the former England Under-21 international, modern stadiums are now for 'business purposes' and the 27-year-old has praised Palace's stadium and supporters for being 'unique' and creating one of the best atmosphere's in England's top flight.

“I think football nowadays is becoming… it is everyone with cameras taking videos and not living in the moment,” Hughes said while speaking to Palace's website. “The atmosphere at Selhurst is unique – it’s a big factor in what we are trying to create. It’s proper – that’s what I mean by 'proper'.

“I like the tight tunnel, it’s an old-school stadium. It creates an atmosphere. A lot of the new stadiums now are for business purposes, so it’s not as good.”

Man City make the trip to Selhurst Park on Saturday evening, with Hughes and his team-mates looking for their first win of 2023 and to widen the gap between themselves in 12th and the bottom three, which currently stands at five points.
