It's 'possible' that Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh resigns Thursday, city solicitor says

BALTIMORE _ Baltimore City solicitor Andre Davis said it is "possible" that Mayor Catherine Pugh may resign Thursday.

Davis drafted a resignation letter for Pugh and gave it Wednesday to her attorney Steven Silverman, sources told The Baltimore Sun. Both men declined to comment about the exchange, which was witnessed by a Sun reporter.

Silverman announced a news conference Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at his downtown office. A release from Silverman's law office said he would make an "important announcement" regarding the mayor.

Pugh is under investigation by the FBI, the IRS and the Maryland Office of the State Prosecutor. The investigations involve, at least in part, her no-bid contract to sell books to the University of Maryland Medical System while she was on its board of directors _ first reported in March by The Sun.

Pugh has been on a month-long paid leave that she attributed to pneumonia amid calls from city officials and Gov. Larry Hogan to step down.
