'It's possible' - Lucas Torreira's father hints at Arsenal exit as he discusses his son's future

Lucas Torreira might not be hitting the heights of earlier in the season but his debut campaign with Arsenal so far has been a success.

The Uruguay international was outstanding in the first half of the campaign and even though his form has dipped somewhat, he has found a home at the Gunners.

He cemented his popular status amongst the fanbase with a goal in his first taste of a north London derby in the 4-2 Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur during the club's long unbeaten run.

However, if the words of his father are to be believed, Torreira’s future at the Emirates Stadium is more than up in the air.

After starting out at Pescara in Italy, Torreira's big breakthrough came at Sampdoria before he joined Arsenal last summer.

Napoli also wanted Torreira and his father insists he could return to Italy one day.

"It’s true, Lucas was very close to Napoli. There were negotiations with Napoli, but something strange happened, and you know in the transfer market things can change from one moment to the next," Ricardo Torreira told Radio Marte, per Football Italia.

"Negotiations are long and complicated processes, so it can happen that they don’t go the way we expected.

"There was this opportunity to go to England and Lucas took it, so I have to say he is happy at Arsenal.

"Obviously, Lucas is very fond of Italian football, where he grew up, and might return to Italy in future.

"You can never say never, so it’s possible he could come back to this marvellous country and, why not to Napoli or another club that makes an offer?"
