'It's over' - Liverpool legend gives blunt assessment of Premier League title race with Manchester City

Liverpool currently lead the Premier League by two points ahead of Manchester City as the title race enters its final stretch.

Man City can jump back above Liverpool by defeating Manchester United at Old Trafford this evening, with the Blues currently having four matches left in comparison to the Reds' three contests.

Even if Pep Guardiola's men do the business in the Manchester derby, the title is far from over -  and even one draw for City between now and the end of the campaign could see Liverpool prevail if the Reds keep winning.

Barcelona's advantage over Liverpool ahead of Champions League semi-final

But that has not stopped one former Liverpool star, Steve Nicol, claiming that the battle for the Premier League trophy is already over.

Nicol has given another alternative take on all things Liverpool.

He was the man who hammered the Reds after the win at Bayern Munich in the Champions League - and he's provided another curveball ahead of City's clash at United.

“I think it’s over now,” Nicol said on ESPN FC. “I don’t see a way that Man City lose any games, never mind dropping points.

“I just don’t see anybody getting in their way. That means that they win all their games and they win the title. It’s as simple as that.”

Glasgow Rangers "embarrassed" by Liverpool U23 team forcing Steven Gerrard to make big changes

It's safe to say that Liverpool fans will not agree with this claim.

It follows Nicol's comments after the 3-1 win in Munich, when he said: “Liverpool on the ball in this game overall, I thought they were atrocious.

"I thought they were as bad as I’ve ever seen.

"But it goes to show you stats don’t mean anything, and the only thing that matters is the scoreline, and Liverpool won 3-1."
