Glasgow weather: Hottest day of the year so far as temperatures hit 30C in Scotland

Today is officially the hottest day of the year in Scotland so far as the country basks in a much welcomed mini-heatwave.

Mercury levels in Prestwick, Ayrshire have reached a sweltering 30C –  and while we're a couple of degrees cooler in Glasgow at 28C, we're still hotter than the Costa Del Sol. We'll take that.

Glaswegians are heading out to parks, on cycles and grabbing takeaway pints across the city as they make the most of the sunshine and scorching temperatures.

And while the Met Office warns there was a risk of thunderstorms hitting today and tomorrow, we've managed to avoid any adverse conditions so far.

The weather service has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, which is in place until 9am tomorrow morning.

Temperatures will peak at around 25 degrees during the afternoon - so it looks like we're in for some more humidity.

The forecast reads: "Overnight mist soon burning off. Then some sunny intervals and occasional heavy showers or thunderstorms, some drier interludes too. Feeling very warm and humid again. Maximum temperature 25 °C."

A second warning has also been issued from 12pm tomorrow till 9am on Saturday, with the chance of "flooding and disruption in a few places."

We'll keep our eyes peeled for any more updates on the weather but until then you can check out the Met Office Twitter for more info.
