Gather round folk, because Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau are the world’s weirdest new celebrity couple!
After rumours of their tryst circulated this summer, it has finally been confirmed that the 40-year-old pop star and the 53-year-old former Prime Minister of Canada are an item.
The pair were caught in the most bougie of celeb soft launches: making out on a yacht off the coast of California. Lily Rose Depp and Timothee Chalamet eat your heart out!
The paparazzi pictures show Trudeau cradling Perry as they embrace on the upper deck of her yacht, while another captures her with her arms wrapped around his neck as he nuzzles into her cheek.
According to eyewitnesses, the yacht trip took place off the coast of Santa Barbara in late September. “She pulled up her boat next to a small public whale-watching boat, then they started making out,” a witness told the Daily Mail.
So... maybe not so much of a soft launch! But rumblings of their relationship have been happening for a while. Back in July, the pair were seen on a dinner date in Montreal, on a stroll at Mount Royal Park, and Trudeau was spotted at Katy Perry's Lifetimes tour date in Canada.
These rumours came shortly after Perry announced her split from longtime partner Orlando Bloom in early July. The pair had been romantically linked since 2016 and engaged since 2019. They never married but do share a daughter, Daisy Dove, who is five years old.
Meanwhile, Justin Trudeau has been single for two years, having split from his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau in 2023 after 18 years of marriage. They share two children, Xavier, 17, Ella-Grace 16, and Hadrien, 11.
Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau’s pairing might seem speedy, but sources say she’s serious about the relationship. “Katy is very, very interested in him. She says he's a real catch, a high-quality guy. She keeps a lot of details to herself, but she clearly still likes him a lot,” a source told the Daily Mail earlier this month.
“They just are so busy and in different cities, so they aren't physically together,” the insider added. “But if there's anyone worth having a long-distance relationship with, it's him. She likes him a lot. He likes her a lot.
“I'd even say they're enamored. He's actually a pretty good texter. And if she's interested in someone like she is with him, she'll take the time to wish him good morning or see how his day went. She's good like that. She's still very busy on her tour. So time will tell what happens.”
